Marketing Insights – Super Bowl Ads
Where else can you have access to over 100 million viewers for your advertising spot? The Super Bowl ads are (supposed to be) the cream of the crop in advertising circles. See the top 10 Super Bowl ads of 2013 here. Did you see them? Was it worth it to the advertisers?
2012 Super Bowl XLIV had 68 30 sec. spots that went for over $100,000 dollars per second or roughly $3 million each.
In 2012 the ante was upped. We're looking at $3.5 million each with many of the auto manufacturer's trying to outdo the rest of the pack. (Ford again is sitting it out on the sidelines - maybe that's why they didn't need bailout funds.)

Our pre-screen favorites of 2012 look to be animated bugs going for a ride on the grill of the Chevy Sonic and the Audi "daylight" head lamps that perform as vampire killers. Watch what you drive, Edward! Werewolves aren't the only thing you need to watch out for in the dark.
A few favorites and classics:
Budweiser's 1995 Super Bowl XXIX ad started a series with the Bud Frogs(later -1998 XXXII- adding lizards/chameleons). Directed by Gore Verbinski who went on to later fame as director of Pirates of the Caribbean. This still received traction in the opening number of Jimmy Fallon's 2012 after-bowl special.
Whether you liked it or not this ad had a social media effect before there was social media: WASSUP!
Classic Budweiser Clydesdale ads had early impact with this "Rocky" themed dalmatian training the Clydesdale, Hank, to get into shape to pull the famous Bud wagon.
NFL: Take off (2010). A NFL thank you to "The best fans on the planet" starts out with a slow motion leap for the goal line by the New Orleans Saints running back, Reggie Bush with a sound-over of a NASA count down.
My 2011 Super Bowl favorite was the VW Super Beetle ad. Especially because my grandson was into bugs and found it hilarious as well.
